MLCCC Weekend School Programs
Serving children (starting at three years old) to adults, the MLCCC Weekend School
provides a variety of language and cultural programs that support attendees' educational
and career goals.

CHL Program - Chinese as a Heritage Language
The CHL program is for students who have a Mandarin Chinese-speaking environment
at home and thus can understand and speak at least basic Mandarin. The CHL Program
starts from 4 year olds and continues all the way through high school. For each
academic year, the program provides skills in speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin.
The CHL Kindergarten program uses the teaching materials developed by MLCCC. The
curriculum combines Mandarin language learning with songs, crafts, and other fun
activities. The recommended age range for the Kindergarten class is 4 to 5 years
old.
The 1st to 10th
grade CHL program uses
Ma Liping text books
as curriculum. This curriculum has the following characteristics:
- Learn Chinese characters first, then learn Pinyin
- Learn how to recognize Chinese characters first, then learn how to write the characters
- Learn Chinese reading first, then learn Chinese writing
- Using stories that are fun and well liked by children
- Use multimedia (eg. CD-ROM) as part of homework to make the assignments more enjoyable
for students.
The recommended age to start this program is 6 years old.
AP Chinese / SAT II Chinese
Began in 2009, this class prepares students for the AP Chinese and SAT II Chinese
exams.
CSL Program - Chinese as a Second Language
The CSL program is for students who do not have a Mandarin Chinese-speaking environment
at home, and who can't communicate using basic Mandarin.
We currently have two different classes that are based upon different age ranges:
- CSL class for young children
- CSL class for middle and high school students as well as adults
Artistic Programs - Art and Dance
MLCCC's Artistic programs provide a variety of fun ways to learn about and enjoy
Chinese culture.
Art for Younger Students- designed for young or novice students with the
emphasis on basic drawing skills.
Art for Older Students- designed for older or more experienced students and
the emphasis is on drawing what is seen (both real and imaginary).

- learn to make tonal shaded drawings, contour line drawings, quick responsive gesture
sketches, still lifes, landscapes, cityscapes and portraits
MLCCC Children's Dance Troupe- great way to enjoy a traditional Chinese cultural
art form.
- directed and taught by Jing Xiaoyang, the Executive Director and lead dancer of
the
Jasmine Dance Troupe
- performs during school events and in the community
Adult Dance Class- also taught by Ms. Jing Xiaoyang
Athletic Programs - Karate and Olympic Fencing
Karate- learn self defense, exercise your body, great break from in-class
learning.
- Taught by Cheng's Martial Arts
Olympic Fencing Class- an art and a science, a combat sport that combines
elements of chess, music, debate, dance, and logic.
Technology Enrichment Class - Web Design
Beginning in September 2010, MLCCC will offer this class of digital wizardry that
is popular with the students.

to professionals around the world
- taught by Yao Yuan Laoshi, recipient of the prestigious Artist Honors Fellowship
from Savannah College and Design in Georgia
Math Enrichment Class - MATHCOUNTS
Beginning in September 2010, MLCCC will offer this enrichment program to students
who are interested in additional math skills training.
MATHCOUNTS
is a national math enrichment and competition program that promotes middle school
mathematics achievement.
Beginning in September 2010, MLCCC will offer two clubs (at very reasonable prices)
to further expand their program and enrich the learning experience of their students.
WeiQi (Go) is an ancient Chinese 2-player board game which has simple rules but
is rich in strategy.
TIME: Running from September to June on Sunday afternoons
(1:00pm to 5:00pm)

in Malvern, PA
SCHOOL YEAR: Divided into three terms of fall, winter,
and spring with each term having 10 weeks
The school year also includes the 31st week that hosts a school assembly featuring
performances from the students.
