MLCCC has been approved for a $100,000 federal grant

2010
As some of you may recall, MLCCC has been conducting a Saturday program at the
Russell Byers Charter School (RBSC)
in Philadelphia since the 2008-2009 school year. This outreach program has enabled
us to teach Chinese language and culture to more than 50 inner city kids who otherwise
would have little opportunity for such global exposure (Find out more about this
program on the "China Learning Program"
page). This program has always been self funded (i.e. Weekend School's tuition income
has never been used to supplement the RBCS program).
To that end, MLCCC¡¯s Board of Directors and Executive Director Mike Wong have been
seeking and applying for government grants and numerous corporate sponsorships to
support our program at the RBCS. We have just been informed that President Obama
has just signed a bill which led to the approval of a $100,000 federal grant for
MLCCC to expand our program at RBSC!
We are only allowed to use this money for the outreach program at RBCS, and not
for our Weekend School. Nevertheless, this is terrific news and great affirmation
of our long term vision and goals. We are thrilled and grateful that MLCCC is being
federally recognized in this manner. We look forward to bringing the beauty and
wisdom of China to more kids and adults alike!
